The Yew Tree

Highclere, Hampshire

Only steps away from the iconic Highclere Castle, set of Downton Abbey, The Yew Tree is a true countryside inn that is continuing a long tradition of top quality cuisine led by the creative and talented Head Chef Simon Davis.

The unmistakably British menu takes full advantage of it’s idyllic countryside location with fresh game, fabulous seafood and delicious seasonal herbs and flavours. The cosy interior is a beautifully eclectic mix of antique wood furnishings, buttery leather sofas and snug tartan-lined banquets. Large wood burning fireplaces and plenty of candlelight make the dining room the perfect spot for a delicious dinner for two and the cottage style rooms with their wonderful William Morris wallpaper set the scene to create your own home-away-from-home in the Hampshire countryside.

Things to Do

There are eight cosy cottage-style rooms secreted away at The Yew Tree. Ascend the winding staircase and cosy-up in one of their upstairs rooms replete in English charm with wonky ceilings striped with timber beams, beds draped in tartan blankets and walls adorned with fabulous William Morris prints.

For a little more privacy, the two ground floor rooms at the back of the pub have their own private entrance with dog beds and bowls available for any four-legged travelling companions. Calming rain showers and tea trays filled with Teapigs and biscuits and a traditional breakfast provide the finishing touches to the English cottage charm.

Restaurant & Bar

The real feather in the cap at this captivating inn is the kitchen where Chef and Landlord Simon Davis shares his passion for the local Hampshire ingredients. Inspired by the rich fishing and hunting in the area, the menu is an evolving countryside banquet of fresh fish and game which changes almost daily, depending on what new ingredients Simon has foraged from the local fields and farms.

Savour trout and smoked haddock fish pie with Wookey Hole cheddar mash, Laverstoke Park buffalo liver with mashed potato, crispy bacon and caramelised onion sauce or roast loin of Portland lamb with ratatouille and fondant potato in a basil jus.
