The Trout at Tadpole Bridge is a fabulous riverside property located in the heart of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. Offering seasonal ingredients, cosy rooms and a delightful riverside position, it is ideal for an authentic Cotswold inn experience.

In keeping with the name, here you can always expect to find freshly caught Trout on the menu along with a wide selection of other British classics. The cosy rooms are ideal for a weekend retreat or a Cotswolds fishing break. The romantic riverside setting also makes it a lovely place to come and rest up in between a bike or boat ride.

The Trout has six rooms each named after fishing flies and each encompassing their unique rural location. Wake up to stunning views across the river as well as a traditional tray of tea and coffee for total comfort. The walls are splashed with watery river hues, pastel blues and golds and accompanied with vintage furnishings, brass beds and fabulous rain showers – encompassing everything you need for an idyllic countryside getaway.

For succulent local flavours, begin your meal with their delicious game terrine, caught from a neighbouring estate, before tucking into the highly popular chargrilled rainbow trout served with scrumptious crayfish butter and fries.  Wash it all down with a wide selection of local ales and wines for an unbeatable Cotswolds feast.

Simply put, the Cotswolds is brimming with outdoor adventure. And being on the riverside puts it at the forefront of the area’s boat and fishing scene. Dock up outside the inn and come in for a bite to eat, or, venture out on a fishing adventure across the plethora of fishing lakes that make up the Cotswolds. The nearby Blenheim Palace Lake is fantastic for winter pike fishing and boasts sublime views aw well. If you didn’t arrive by boat, you can hire your own and the chefs will arrange a champagne picnic, for a touch of romance.

Fans of Downtown Abbey need look no further than the nearby town of Bampton. This charming Cotswolds village is a picture perfect community that’s surrounded by rolling green and steeped in history. See if you can spot the filming locations of the famous television series as you meander through the winding alleyways, shops and market stalls of this peaceful town.

Nature

It’s probably no surprise that a traditional Cotswold’s bolthole like the Trout is surrounded by an abundance of wildlife. From the variety of fish in the river to the local resident cows and swans, this is undoubtedly a location for those who seek to kick back with nature. If you want to uncover a little more, then the pastures and wildflower meadows of the Chimney Nature Reserve are literally right on your doorstep.
