Old House Inn

Copthorne, West Sussex

Sumptuous gourmet delights await those who dine at The Old House Inn, a West Sussex inn that consistently tops our foodie lists. Hidden away on an unassuming country road, in our books this is one of the best kept secrets in West Sussex with simply incredible cuisine within a charming cottage setting.

The house itself looks like something straight out of a Harry Potter novel with its higgledy chimneys and black lattice windows, but the real magic is happening in the kitchen. Using ingredients foraged from the gardens and surrounding fields, the Head Chef performs culinary alchemy by creating inventive dishes of flavour combinations that are nothing short of divine. Expect colourful plates of wood pigeon and slow-cooked pork belly garnished with wild herbs and edible flowers before bedding down in their elegant rooms. An ideal choice for any inquisitive foodie.

  • Feels like a complete countryside escape despite being just minutes from Gatwick Airport

Restaurant & Bar

Where do we begin? The incredible flavour combinations, the beautiful presentation, the fascinating use of ingredients foraged from the gardens and surrounding fields? (you simply can’t get fresher than that) – their Head Chef never fails to surprise and delight with his inventive British dishes. Embark on a culinary odyssey with a ballotine of foie gras and ginger bread, wood pigeon with black pudding or roast lamb rump with truffle jus washed down with a real ale or fine wine. Make sure to leave room for desserts, the flaming crème brûlée with sable biscuits is heavenly.

Private dining & events

If you’re ever looking for a summer party venue, The Old House Inn has a garden that can accommodate Arabian tents, an outdoor pizza oven, al fresco dining and helicopter arrivals – all at the same time. It’s that big. The landlords are no stranger to arranging everything from wedding receptions to corporate events and parties for up to 150 guests. If you prefer something a little more intimate, the private dining room is ideal for a decadent dinner or The Snug offers a romantic hideaway for couples looking for privacy.
