Nestled in the picturesque downland village of Hursley, The King’s Head offers traditional British hospitality in a lovely rural setting. The menu mixes traditional pub favourites with luxurious plates of market fresh fare. Enjoy rich British flavours such as oak smoked salmon with English asparagus, Hampshire rib-eye steak or New Forest goats cheese. End the evening with a drink at the cellar bar or a game of old fashioned skittles before resting your head in the elegant country house rooms.

Things to Do


Eight individually designed hotel rooms with plush carpets and antique furnishings all have an AA four star rating and are equipped with all the comfort and facilities you would imagine from a small country, boutique hotel. The en suite bathrooms are well sized, modern and most importantly, stocked with plump fluffy towels!

Restaurant & Bar

Enjoy traditional British flavours with a lavish twist; so expect full on, rich flavours from a mix of luxurious plates and market fresh classics such as oak smoked salmon with English asparagus, Hampshire rib-eye steak or New Forest goat’s cheese. Traditional Sunday roasts are also a specialty.

Private dining & events

The King’s Head Cellar Bar seats up to 30 people and welcomes corporate meetings, conferences and private parties. The cellar bar was a regular meeting room for the Hursley Home Guard during World War Two.

Be sure not to miss their very own old fashioned skittles alley, which acts as an incredibly quirky twist to your event.

South Coast Sailing

The King’s Head is located 35 minutes from the sailing hub of Hamble, home to Britain’s finest marinas, yacht clubs and sailing schools. In September, the PSP Southhampton Boat Show takes place on the UK’s largest purpose built show marina which in only 20 minutes away from The King’s Head.

Culture & Heritage

Grange Park Opera

Founded in 1997 the Grange Park Opera has quickly established itself as one of the major music festivals in Europe’s operatic summer season. With an annual programme of four productions that are staged in a 550-seat state-of-the-art theatre built within the 18th century conservatory, many productions have been acclaimed for superb singing, outstanding conducting and magnificent stage sets.

New Forest National Park

The New Forest National Park is a scenic area with heathlands, forests and home to the iconic New Forest ponies. Whist meandering through the area you can often spot cows, pigs, donkeys and of course the ponies roaming free.
